Intake Manifold

Intake manifolds distribute the air/fuel mixture—or air only in direct injection systems—to the engine’s cylinders. Positioned between the throttle body and cylinder heads, they ensure even distribution for optimal combustion. Construction typically involves cast aluminum or plastic, optimized for airflow through runner design and plenum volume. Modern manifolds may incorporate integrated temperature sensors and utilize variable geometry for broader torque curves. Gaskets and mounting hardware are critical sealing components, requiring replacement during installation.
