Power Steering Fluid

Power steering fluid is a hydraulic fluid transmitting force from the power steering pump to the steering gear, assisting the driver in steering vehicle wheels. It’s utilized within the closed-loop hydraulic system of most vehicles employing hydraulic power steering, and increasingly, within electric power steering systems for cooling and lubrication. Formulations are specific to vehicle manufacturer standards, varying in viscosity and additive packages to optimize pump performance and component longevity. Key technical features include oxidation stability, corrosion inhibition, and high lubricity to minimize wear on internal seals and components. Compatibility with seal materials—typically nitrile or fluoroelastomers—is critical, and fluid type must match manufacturer specifications to prevent system damage.
