Oil Pressure Sensor
Oil pressure sensors monitor engine oil pressure and transmit this data to the engine control unit (ECU) or instrument cluster. Typically threaded into the engine block or oil gallery, these sensors utilize a piezoelectric or strain gauge element to convert pressure into an electrical signal. Signal output is commonly analog (voltage-based) or digital (PWM or LIN protocol), varying by vehicle application. Accurate oil pressure readings are critical for lubrication system health, triggering warning lights or enabling engine protection strategies if pressure falls outside of acceptable parameters. Modern sensors often incorporate temperature compensation for precise readings across varying operating conditions.
