MAF Sensor

Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensors measure the mass of air entering a vehicle’s internal combustion engine. Typically located within the intake air ducting, downstream of the air filter, they provide crucial data to the engine control unit (ECU) for precise fuel delivery. These sensors utilize either a hot-wire or hot-film technology to determine airflow, generating a voltage or frequency signal proportional to air mass. Modern MAF sensors often integrate intake air temperature measurement for enhanced accuracy and diagnostics. Failure can manifest as poor fuel economy, driveability issues, and diagnostic trouble codes related to air/fuel mixture imbalances.
