Seat Belts

Seat belts are primary occupant restraint devices, installed in all vehicle seating positions. They utilize high-tensile webbing, buckles, retractors, and often pre-tensioners and load limiters to secure occupants during collision events. Retractors manage webbing extension and retraction, while pre-tensioners rapidly reduce slack upon impact. Load limiters modulate belt force to minimize chest compression. Modern seat belts frequently integrate with the vehicle’s airbag system for coordinated safety performance and data recording.
