Air Filter

Air filters are critical engine components responsible for removing airborne particulates—dust, pollen, debris—before they reach the combustion chamber. Typically located within the engine’s air intake system, these filters prevent abrasive contaminants from causing cylinder wall wear and piston damage. Construction commonly utilizes pleated cellulose or synthetic media, maximizing surface area for efficient filtration. Filter efficiency is rated by particle size, measured in microns, and airflow is specified in cubic feet per minute (CFM). Variations exist for specific vehicle applications, including panel, cylindrical, and conical designs, each requiring compatible housing and sealing components.
