This thing basically takes the hot, high – pressure refrigerant gas coming from your A/C compressor and cools it down, turning it into a high – pressure liquid. It’s a heat exchanger, so it releases the heat from the refrigerant to the air flowing over it. Think of it like a radiator, but instead of cooling engine coolant, it's cooling refrigerant. It prepares the refrigerant to go back into the system to create cold air inside your car. It sits right in front of your radiator, often. It’s a key part of the entire air conditioning system. The compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, then it goes to the condenser to get cooled, then it goes to the expansion valve to get turned into a mist, then back to the evaporator to make the cold air you feel, and finally back to the compressor to start all over again.
