This sensor basically measures the temperature of the exhaust gases coming out of your engine. It sends that temperature reading to the engine’s computer, the ECU. It's a pretty straightforward job, really – it just tells the computer how hot things are getting after combustion. The ECU uses that temperature info for a few things. Primarily, it helps control the catalytic converter.
