Transmission Sensors

Transmission sensors monitor critical parameters within automatic and manual transmissions to optimize performance and efficiency. These sensors, typically located within the transmission housing, valve body, or on external components, measure variables like input/output speed, turbine speed, fluid temperature, and gear selector position. Data is transmitted to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) for adjustments to shift timing, torque converter clutch operation, and overall transmission function. Common sensor types include speed sensors utilizing Hall-effect or variable reluctance technology, and temperature sensors employing thermistors or resistance temperature detectors (RTDs). Accurate sensor readings are essential for proper operation and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) resolution. Modern transmissions often integrate multiple sensors for precise control and adaptive learning strategies.
