A PTO basically takes power from the engine and transfers it to auxiliary equipment. Think of things like a dump truck’s hydraulic pump, a snowplow, a street sweeper, or even a large generator. It’s not powering the wheels directly, it’s powering something else that needs engine power to work. It does this using a rotating shaft that connects to that other equipment.
