This switch basically tells the transmission what gear you want. It handles the electrical signals that move things inside the gearbox – it’s how the car knows if you’ve moved the shifter to Drive, Reverse, Neutral, or any other gear position. It doesn’t make the car change gears, it just sends the instructions for it to happen. It also usually handles things like the park lock and the backup light circuit.
