This part basically takes the fluid pressure from your master cylinder – when you press the clutch pedal – and uses that pressure to push on the throwout bearing. That bearing then disengages the engine from the transmission, allowing you to shift gears. It’s all hydraulic, so fluid moves this cylinder internally to extend a piston. That piston is what pushes on the throwout bearing. It’s a key part of your clutch system, directly responsible for actually separating the engine and transmission so you can change gears. It’s positioned right inside the transmission bellhousing, close to the clutch fork. Unlike older designs where the slave cylinder was outside the bellhousing and used a pushrod, this concentric style is inside and acts a bit like a direct extension of the clutch fork.
